What the job involves

In-frame overhaul: pistons, liners, rings, bearings, and gaskets replaced with the engine still in the chassis. Faster, less invasive, and enough when the block itself is sound.

Out-of-frame overhaul: the engine comes out, the block gets machined, and everything from the crankshaft up gets inspected and rebuilt or replaced. Bigger job, done when the block needs machining or the damage goes beyond what in-frame can fix.
